Railway (RRB) Photo — Size, Dimensions & Requirements
Railway recruitment forms (RRB NTPC, Group D, ALP, JE) are among the most-filled forms in India — and among the most rejected for photo issues. RRBs are strict about photo quality because your photo is matched at the exam centre gate. This page checks your photo file against the RRB requirements before you submit.
How to check your RRB photo
- Upload your photo.
- The validator checks format, KB size and dimensions against the Railway preset shown above.
- If it fails, use the linked fix (compress/resize), then re-validate.
- Check your signature file too — its limits are different.
What gets Railway applications into trouble
- Blurry or dark photos. RRB instructions explicitly warn about photos where the face isn't clearly visible — centre staff must be able to match you to it.
- Photos with caps, scarves covering the face, or dark glasses.
- Old photos. Take a fresh one against a plain wall in daylight — it takes two minutes and avoids gate-level disputes.
- Some RRB notifications have asked for a photo with the candidate's name and date of photograph — check your CEN's annexure to be sure.

Can I use a selfie?
A well-lit, straight-facing photo against a plain background is what matters. A selfie that meets those conditions can work, but arm's-length selfies often distort the face — better to have someone else take it or use a timer.

Do I need the same photo for the exam and document verification?
